How to be Happy

Dear Friends , we all aim to be happy in life . We do a lot of activities in a day to day life & the hidden aim is to be satisfied and happy . Surprisingly most of us are not happy even after a log days struggle . Not being happy makes us sad , depressed and impacts our social interactions & that in turn makes us more unhappy , so the cycle goes on and finally we go to see a doctor of Psychiatrists hoping they have the solution . They gives us pills to heal , the pills make them rich and our problem stays .

The question is if being Happy so difficult ?

It was so easy to be happy when we were kids , in fact it was our natural state to be happy & joyful all them time as kids .

The truth is for being happy we don’t have to go and see doctor or Psychiatrists , the human body is designed to be happy and we just need to be aware of how .

Humans have four hormones which determine our happiness -

1. Endorphins,

2. Dopamine,

3. Serotonin, and

4. Oxytocin.


a) Let's look at the first hormone the Endorphins. When we exercise, the body releases Endorphins. This hormone helps the body cope with the pain of exercising. We then enjoy exercising because these Endorphins will make us happy. Laughter is another good way of generating Endorphins. We need to spend 30 minutes exercising every day & it can be as simple as a brisk walk 😊

b) The second hormone is Dopamine. When we get appreciated for our work at the office or at home, we feel accomplished and good, that is because it releases Dopamine. So Dopamine is related to being appreciated or rewarded or acknowledged for good work . This is the reason why we feel happy when our manager appreciates us or when our life partner appreciate us for supporting in some activity at home . We also release Dopamine when we shop because mind sees it as some sort of recognition/reward 😊

c) The third hormone Serotonin is released when we work to benefit of others . This is why we feel happy when we contribute to charity or help people to accomplish something 😊

d) The final hormone is Oxytocin, is released when we become close to other human beings. When we hug our friends or family Oxytocin is released. 😊


So now you know the secret to be happy & there is no need to see a doctor to be happy , here is a short summary

1. Include 30 min of physical exercise of your choice to your daily schedule to get your daily dose of Endorphins

2. At the end of the day , appreciate your accomplishments to get a does of Dopamine. Don’t carry guilt and bad feeling for what you could not achieve , remember tomorrow is a new day and you can try again

3. For Serotonin , just be nice to people , help them in whatever way you can. At work you can appreciate accomplishments of others to help them get their daily does of Dopamine .

4. Lastly for Oxytocin , hug your loved ones & feel the happiness hormone working magic for you


Another golden rule about Happens is ,"If you spread happiness you will get happiness" . So help other to be happy and in turn you too will be happy
