Today i want to talk to you about Cinnamon, cinnamon is a popular herb and finds its way to most of the kitchens.
It has immense benefits & some of them are :-
1. It has anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties
2. Packed with antioxidants with anti-inflammatory effects
3. It is good for gut health
4. Helps to manage blood pressure
5. Helps in management of blood sugar, great herb for people with type 2 diabetes
6. Relieves digestive discomfort
While it is good for health, people taking blood thinners or going for surgery should consult the doctor before taking it. Also, for some people it may cause skin rashes ( due to the volatile oil), so good advice would be to start with small quantities (1~2 grams) & looks for body reactions if any, if all is okey then you can happily take 4 to 6 grams of cinnamon /day .
Unfortunately most of the Cinnamon we buy from supermarket is fake, taking it can adversely impact our health and well being. So i would like to share some tips to help you chose the right Cinnamon .
Here are some useful tips
The Original Cinnamon comes from Srilanka and some parts of east India, the fake one come from Vietnam, Indonesia and China
Always but organic and made in Srilanka, this is the best form of cinnamon.
The amount of coumarin in Ceylon cinnamon is about .017g/kg but it is too high ( 2 to 7g/kg) for the fake one, Coumarin is a anticoagulant and blood thinner and its overdoes can create multiple health issues.
The real cinnamon curls in circles, it is light and fluffy.
Never buy powdered, or never make a powered of it at home. While making a cinnamon powder may be helpful in managing it, but it also results in oxidation & by that most of the good health benefits of the herb are lost .
Lastly, the real cinnamon is expensive but it is worth the price !
